Weight training

Would I be able to incorporate the principals of tabata training into my strength training program? I would assume tabata training is primarily used for running/sprinting. I know to use large muscle groups, but would it be so bad if i used smaller muscle groups as well, and tried to gain muscle mass? Thanks.

Smaller muscle groups
by: Greg

I wouldn't really use tabata for gaining muscles, its benefits are more of an adaption to stress from anaerobic activity, so although its useful for running and sprinting, its also useful for any explosive exercise because it increases your bodies ability to function in a low oxygen environment (anaerobic), it makes it more efficient in using its energy. It also is very useful for slimming down your weight.

If you are doing large and small muscle groups in the same exercise, that's great, but you don't want to be doing several tabata workouts in one session, it should just be one.

HIIT every other day
by: Tony

If i do strengh training M,W,F, should i then do HIIT T,Th,Sat? Since strengh training strips muscles of glucose, as does HIIT, would that be overdoing it? Or should i do both M,W,F??

Most hiit workouts say you should do the hiit on separate days to your weight training, but there are workouts like turbulence training that do the hiit immediately after the weights.

Its not going to harm you if you choose either way, just make a call on how much available time you have and how well you are recovering from each workout.
