Tabata without weights

I've only just come across Tabata and all the articles I've just read mention using weights for Tabata training. I'm recovering from a broken elbow at the moment and until my physio gives me the go ahead, weights are not an option right now. Probably not for several months to come. Can I use cardio sessions, ie plyometrics, walking lunges or even jump change lunges instead?

Interval training can be applied to any form of exercise. Tabata is just another 'exclusivized' interval training format.

Yes, my spinning instructor incorporates the Tabata method. We spin like hell for 20 seconds, easy for 10... repeat for 8 minutes. It's hard core!

Direct ab-exercises

Can I use tabata for crunches, sit-ups and other direct ab-exercises? Or do ab exercises simply not work?
