Tabata Training on a stationary bike

by Max
(USA)

When looking into Tabata training. I found an article and You Tube video that says you can use a stationary bike for the training which is to be for 4 minutes only. I've been reading a lot of posts on here of people doing HIIT for 20-45 minutes, involving weights??? Is using a stationary bike not beneficial? Now I'm really confused. The HIIT work out I was looking at was high intensity pedaling on a stationary bike for 20 seconds...slower pedaling for 10 seconds for 8 sets. Is this not correct?

What you want to do will be hugely beneficial.

True tabata is only 4 minutes long. When people talk of 20 minutes or so, they really are talking about hiit.

The major difference between tabata and hiit is the volume of work in a small amount of time.

When you finish hiit, you should be pretty exhausted, but tabata will put that to shame.

When you finish tabata you should be at your physical and mental limit.

You may not be able to get to that limit on a bike, which is why people use weights.

Saying that, for most of us, pushing ourselves to that extreme is not really worth the pain, we can get just as good results from hiit.

None of this is carved in stone, try out a bunch of scenarios and see what works for you.
