Post HIIT WORKOUT

by Boun
(Woodridge, IL)

Should I avoid consuming my protein shake or replenishing my body with carbs after my HIIT workout? I've read somewhere online that someone suggested that you should avoid consuming anything within the hour of completing your workout. Can you confirm this? I am normally lifting and ending my session with HIIT sprints on the treadmill. Since I am lifting, I wanted to maximum the muscle growth by consuming protein after my workout. Please advise.

Eating after a workout
by: Greg

As far as science is concerned at the moment its exactly the opposite, you definitely need to eat within an hour of working out.

Your body is geared for refueling so it uses protein fantastically and its probably the best time to eat carbohydrates.

eating AFTER workout
by: Anonymous

It's OK to eat after your workout, however, you don't want to spike insulin by eating fast sugars (High glycemic carbs), as this will shut down your release of Human growth hormone, which is what burns fat. The older you are, the more critical this becomes. The younger crowd mistakenly suggests taking high glucose carbs to purposely spike insulin to force protein into the cells, but this is a bad idea on many counts. Remember too, that any time insulin spikes fat burning ceases, and fat storage begins. Not to mention the long term damage to your pancreas and
you don't want diabetes do you? The protein will find it's way into the cells just fine without overloading on sugar. Eat a few roasted Almonds, a protein shake, and a piece of fruit after your workout and you'll be just fine!! :)
