Is this good for toning?

I'm currently on a weight loss program, and have lost 57 lbs, but need to find a program that will help tone certain areas. Will Tabata training help with toning issues? Can it be used on the treadmill and elliptical?

Sincerely,

Becky

toning???

There's no such thing as "toning." It's a misnomer. Muscles either lose tissue or gain tissue.

Gospel truth

Indeed, there is absolutely no such thing as 'toning' certain areas of your body. Lots of people think (simply because they've never been told otherwise) that they can tighten up or tone certain parts of their body, like their stomach for instance. But the brutally honest truth is that the reason areas of your body don't look 'toned' is because they have layers of fat on top of the muscle hiding it. And the only way to make an area look toned, is to burn that fat thats hiding the muscle. You can increase your muscle size and definition sure, but you wont see it, because it's UNDERNEATH that fat. And the other frustrating and incredibly common fitness misconception is that most people think they can JUST burn their stomach fat, or the fat on their arms...thats not the case. The only way to burn fat in one place is to burn fat in general, everywhere. Your fat burns as a whole, the reason people have more fat on certain areas of their body (eg. around the mid section for men, and around the thighs and rear for women) is because your fat simply forms and deposits more in certain places than others for various reasons. But it all needs to be reduced as one. The only way to reduce fat in a specific area is through one of the kinds of fat removal surgery, which I would never advise because it can be very dangerous and also means that although fat will never be deposited in that area of your body again, the fat that would have been deposited there will just move to another area and pile up, with much more fat than before, so it could result in the person in question looking quite unusual if not a bit deformed.
