HIIT and Tabata

by Dr. A. R. Scopelliti
(Long Branch, NJ USA)

i am very interested in this method of training. I have been observing the twenty minute workout, 30 seconds full effort followed by 90 seconds of recovery, 8x, + the warm-up and cool-down. I am assuming that even with this method, this should not be done daily? Every other day is good? I use exercises for my 30 seconds such as push-ups, chatarunga run, squats, etc. would the Tabata method be done every other day? My literature reviews seem to show that the 30/90 method works the best.

Thanks,

Dr. S.

Every other day
by: Greg

Its very important to do Hiit every other day. If you are doing it properly, rest is a vital part of improving.

Tabata is actually so intense if done properly that a lot of people only do it once a week and then do standard HIIT twice during the week.

20/10 vs 30/90

Good question.
Prior to stumbling upon Tabata training,I first read about it on Dr.Mercola's website and he advocated the 30sec HI with 90sec rest.Tried it and loved it.Less intense than 20/10 .Like you , I wonder if both are equally beneficial.
