Further discussion of resistance

by Joe
(New York)

Okay, the answer to my first question was great, I thank you.

But the one thing I asked that wasn't addressed: Should I be doing the weights/resistance on the same days as the HIIT?

Or should I leave the lifting for the rest days in between the HIIT?

Thanks,
~Joe

Answer: mmm Apologies, i always miss something. As far as same day vs alternate days - i've seen programs with both so its up to your preference.

If you want to do them both on the same day then i wouldn't go to far above 6 intervals, you should be pretty tired from your weights anyway. One bonus is you get lots of rest between workouts.

If you want to alternate them you could go up to 15 intervals when you get fit enough. Just make sure you rest properly on your off day and maybe give yourself a break for a few days every 8 or so weeks.

My opinion on this is that you will probably get better results from alternating your interval training and resistance training with one condition - you recover well enough between workouts.

Personally i struggle to do cardio after a weights workout so i can't imagine trying to do HIIT.

Just remember these workouts are all about intensity not endurance, so find the routine where you can achieve that.
