burning fat in only 4 min?

I've been taught that only after 30 min (at least) of aerobic excercise my methabolism starts burning fat. How does the tabata training respond to that? What does the intervals do in terms of energetic systems that it burn fat in such a short time??

Ive read that at 30 mins is when ur body starts burning fat for fuel. But, then your body begins to store more fat for future use. With the shorter and more intense workouts, you burn your carb and sugar/glycogen stores in your muscles and then after your workout, your body will replace those lost carbs/glycogen into your muscles from your fat. In this way, though, your body doesn't get the signal to store more fat. If you get your heart rate up to your max (220 minus your age), you also will release human growth hormone which will help you gain muscle strength, etc. There is one caveat...do NOT eat sugar for at least 2 hours after the workout or it will ruin the HGH production. for more information on High intensity interval training, see Dr. Mercola's website.
